Parent & Child Programs

HIPPY

The Home Interaction Program for Parents and Youngsters (HIPPY) trains parents on how to become their preschool aged children’s first teachers. It is an ideal way to prepare them for school.

Through home-based visits every second week by a home tutor, parents will understand more about child development and will learn ways to develop their child’s self esteem, confidence and love of learning. Parents also meet with a group of other parents participating in the program once every second week to share information, experiences and support.  Families attend the program for 2 years.

HIPPY is based on the belief in the power of home as a learning environment and parents as primary educators.

My Time

MyTime groups provide facilitated peer support for parents, grandparents and anyone caring for children with a disability, developmental delay or chronic medical condition.

MyTime provides an informal group setting for you to socialise and share ideas and information with others who understand the rewards and intensity of caring for a child with special needs. Each group is facilitated by an experienced facilitator who will support parents in determining areas they would like in the program.

Your child can accompany you to groups until they reach school age, but you are responsible for them at all times. The groups have a play-helper to engage the children in fun supported activities whilst the parents and carers can share time with other parents.

Who can use this service?

Parents and carers of a child up to 16 years who have a disability, developmental delay or chronic medical condition and who are eligible for the Carer Allowance (Child).

Cost

Nil.
