Thanks to advancements in technology and the widespread use of smart devices, many of the barriers to accessing quality allied health and educational services have been removed, giving families more flexibility to access support in a way that suits them.

Learning Links’ is now offering telehealth and other online services via phone or video, to ensure children and families can receive ongoing professional help for their mental health, learning and development needs from the comfort of their home.

Our services are delivered from Sydney-based locations and are available Australia-wide.

What is telehealth?

Telehealth is an alternate way of providing health-related services and information remotely via technologies like computers and mobile devices.

Telehealth and online learning services are an effective way of providing professional support when face-to-face sessions are unavailable, access is limited due to geographic location, there are health risks or families simply want to remove the stress of travel.

In many ways, online sessions are the same as face-to-face – via video, children can see and hear their therapist or teacher, talk and type with them, and participate in the same types of games and activities. There are also additional benefits:

  • Sessions are convenient for families, removing the stress or cost associated with travel
  • Being in a familiar environment can make children feel calm and more at ease to work with their professional
  • Professionals can use the technology to interact with and engage children in new and interesting ways
  • Learning skills in the home can help children apply those skills to familiar, day-to-day tasks
  • Parents can choose to be more actively involved in sessions to build skills and techniques specifically for use in the home

All of Learning Links’ video sessions are delivered using the secure and encrypted Zoom platform and are kept confidential. We’ll assist you by providing simple instructions and will be there to guide you every step of the way.

Psychology

Telehealth psychology, sometimes called telepsychology, online psychology or virtual therapy, allows families to access crucial, person-centred support for mental health and wellbeing. Studies have shown that online sessions are as effective as face-to-face, and are incredibly important in offering continuation of care in difficult times when access to services are limited.

Our experienced team of psychologists help children, parents and families – via video sessions or over the phone – with a range of challenges, including:

  • Anxiety
  • Depression
  • Self-esteem
  • Bullying and social skills
  • Emotional regulation
  • Behavioural difficulites and anger management
  • ADHD and Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)
  • Coping with change and transitions
  • Family issues, like separation or divorce

We use a range of evidence-based therapies including Cognitive Behaviour Therapy, Brief Solutions and Play Therapy to empower children to continue to build strengths and develop new skills to cope in areas they struggle.

Our team work directly with children, and we can also run sessions with one or both parents to address their needs and help them build greater confidence and capacity to support their child/ren.

Video sessions use the Zoom platform and are confidential and secure.

Specialist Tutoring

Online specialist tutoring program with one of our qualified teachers can assist children who face difficulties at school, by providing consistent and personalised support for their learning needs at home.

We help children in primary and secondary school in a range of areas, including:

  • Literacy: reading, writing, spelling and comprehension difficulties
  • Numeracy: mathematics difficulties
  • Dyslexia, dyscalculia, ADHD and Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)
  • Organisation and time management
  • Homework and study strategies

Our video sessions offer the same tailored one-on-one support as our face-to-face program. Your teacher will conduct a screening assessment to understand your child’s strengths and learning style, and find out exactly where the gaps are in their learning. Each session – 30 minutes to 2 hours – will then use fun and engaging activities to help you child build skills and confidence to fill those gaps, before moving onto the next area.

During the session, your child will be able to see their teacher and communicate with them by talking or typing. The teacher will use the Zoom video platform to share images and text on their screen, and run interactive games and activities where your child can draw, type or move objects around. They may also provide digital resources to work on after the session, so your child can practice their skills.

With so much disruption in our children’s schooling this year, Learning Links’ online tutoring can give children with learning difficulties the ongoing support they need to get back on track, make progress and achieve success at school.
