Learning Links runs a MyTime parent support group in West Ryde each Monday.
MyTime groups provide facilitated peer support for parents, grandparents and anyone caring for children with a disability, developmental delay or chronic medical condition.
MyTime is a place for you to unwind and talk about your experiences. It’s a world away from appointments and therapy. The program provides an informal group setting for you to socialise and share ideas and information with others who understand the rewards and intensity of caring for a child with special needs. Each group is facilitated by an experienced facilitator who will support parents in determining areas they would like in the program.
Your child can accompany you to groups until they reach school age, but you are responsible for them at all times. The groups have a play-helper to engage the children in fun supported activities whilst the parents and carers can share time with other parents.
Who can use this service?
MyTime groups are for all parents and family carers of children aged under 18 years who need a higher level of care than other children. This may be because of disability, developmental delay or chronic medical condition.
MyTime groups are not restricted to parents of children with particular additional needs – there are not specific MyTime groups for autism spectrum disorder or cerebral palsy, for example. All groups are open to all parents and carers. In some circumstances, you may be eligible to attend MyTime even if your child doesn’t have a diagnosis.
