When children feel happy, supported, and confident, they can engage meaningfully in the classroom, build strong relationships, and showcase their strengths. Sadly, many children struggle with learning, attention, or social difficulties that create prevent them from participating to their full potential and learning alongside their peers. Learning Links is working to change that.

Learning Links is dedicated to equipping children and adolescents with the skills, strategies and confidence they need to thrive. To do this in the most effective way, it’s crucial to understand each child’s individual needs and strengths, so targeted supports can be put in place.

Helping Over 100 Children by Expanding Access to Assessments

Assessments play a critical role in this process, allowing families to understand more about what their child finds difficult and areas they may excel in, and seek essential funding and support services. However, the cost of assessments, combined with little to no government assistance, often prevents families from accessing this type of crucial service. Without an assessment, children may miss out on the supports that can make a significant difference in their educational journey, wellbeing and future success.

Recognising this challenge, Learning Links partnered with various community and local government funding partners over the last year, including Canley Heights RSL and Sporting Club, Dooleys Lidcombe Catholic Club, Club Central Hurstville, Guildford Leagues, Hornsby RSL, Windsor RSL and Georges River Council, to offer free diagnostic and clinical support to families in need. Our psychologists collaborated with local schools to identify students experiencing learning, attention, or social difficulties. By delivering academic, cognitive, and behavioural assessments, they were able to help families and educators understand more about each child’s needs and guide the development individualised support plans to help with future learning and development.

Offering fully funded assessments in schools has been a key strategy in breaking down barriers, ensuring that families can more easily access support. The initiative has already made a significant impact, providing over 100 children with assessments that their families may not have been able to afford otherwise.

The Power of Community Support

This initiative was made possible thanks to generous funding from community and local government partners and Learning Links is incredibly grateful for the support and alignment with our mission.

One of Learning Links’ school partners shared the profound impact of this initiative:

“Thank you to Learning Links for the grant you initiated with our school this year. The funding from Dooleys has enabled us to perform much needed cognitive assessments that have been the impetus for important interventions and supports that otherwise would not have occurred. So for this, thank you and your team.”

A Brighter Future for Every Child

By expanding access to psychological assessments, Learning Links is ensuring that more children who face difficulties with learning are understood and receive the support they need to thrive. Through strong partnerships, dedicated professionals, and a commitment to breaking down financial barriers, Learning Links continues to make a lasting impact on children’s learning, development and wellbeing.
