This August, the Learning Links team is coming together to ‘Lace Up’ and show support for children who face difficulties with learning. We’re excited to announce our participation in the 2025 City2Surf, and this year, the stakes (and spirit) are higher than ever.
Among our dedicated team of walkers and runners is none other than our CEO, Jill Reich, who will be donning her sneakers and taking part in the 14km race from the heart of Sydney to Bondi Beach. Jill is passionate about walking the talk quite literally when it comes to supporting children who are at risk of falling behind due to learning and developmental difficulties.
“For me, City2Surf isn’t just a fun run,” Jill shares. “It’s a chance to raise awareness of the barriers that so many children face when it comes to learning. Every kilometre we complete helps Learning Links create opportunities for kids who are struggling in the early years and at school, to get the support they need to thrive. This is why I’m proud to participate alongside our amazing staff, supporters, and community this year.”
Raising Vital Funds for the Learning Opportunity Fund
Every dollar raised through our ‘Lace Up for Learning Links’ City2Surf campaign supports our Learning Opportunity Fund – helping children who face difficulties with learning in financially disadvantaged communities access the support they need, when they need it most.
Too many children in Australia start school behind and struggle to catch up. Up to 23.5% of children now begin school with developmental vulnerabilities, and by high school, those with ongoing learning difficulties are up to ten times more likely to fall below national standards in literacy and numeracy.
The Learning Opportunity Fund removes financial barriers so children can receive multidisciplinary services including:
- Specialist literacy and numeracy support
- Speech therapy
- Psychological assessments
- Counselling and mental health support
These programs support early identification of difficulties, and help children build vital foundational skills and confidence to build a brighter future.
