Are you passionate about empowering children to reach their full potential? Learning Links, a leading Australian charity supporting children with learning and developmental difficulties, is seeking a dedicated and experienced finance professional to join our Board as a Non-Executive Director (NED).
About Learning Links
With over 50 years of impactful service, Learning Links provides evidence-based programs, including speech therapy, psychological counselling, specialist tutoring, and parent education across Sydney-based centres, NSW schools, and digital platforms. As a registered NDIS provider, we deliver high-quality, inclusive services that support children and their families. Our robust partnerships and diverse funding sources, including NSW clubs, corporate entities, trusts, and government bodies, enable us to reach over 7,000 children annually.
Learning Links is at an exciting stage of national expansion, digital transformation, and operational efficiency, aiming to amplify our positive impact significantly. We are focused on growth and scaling, with ambitious goals to reach more children and deliver a financial surplus that we can reinvest into our services, enabling even more families in need to access vital support.
Role Overview
As a NED, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring Learning Links maintains strong financial governance, risk management, and compliance frameworks. Your expertise will help shape our strategic direction and financial sustainability as we scale our services nationally.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the Finance and Audit Committee (FAC) in promoting best practice in financial management, budget oversight, and forecasting.
- Review and provide input on internal financial controls, delegations, and relevant corporate financial policies and procedures.
- Monitor and seek assurance of compliance with applicable laws, standards, and ethical guidelines.
- Receive reports on external audit functions and assess their independence and effectiveness.
- Review the management and performance of Learning Links' investment portfolio against established guidelines.
- Provide strategic oversight by advising the Board on financial reporting, annual financial statements, and key financial matters.
Skills and Experience
We are seeking an individual with:
- Relevant qualifications (CPA, CA, CFA, or similar) and proven experience in senior financial management roles.
- Experience as CFO or equivalent in a large organisation with diversified revenue sources.
- Strong governance expertise and previous board or committee experience, ideally as a member or Chair of a finance or audit committee.
- Demonstrated experience overseeing financial compliance, audit processes, and risk management frameworks.
- Capability to guide strategic financial decision-making, investment management, and performance monitoring.
- Excellent interpersonal and leadership skills, with a commitment to integrity and high ethical standards.
Previous experience in the not-for-profit sector, coupled with governance qualifications such as the AICD Company Directors course, will be highly regarded.
Commitment
This voluntary role requires attendance at bi-monthly board meetings (held in Sydney or virtually) and quarterly FAC meetings, with additional participation as necessary.
