Mayor of The Hills Shire, Councillor Yvonne Keane has been announced the very first ambassador of Learning Links.
“Learning Links is an amazing organisation working hand-in-hand with schools, children’s centres and families to provide vital and life-changing early intervention for children with learning difficulties and disabilities,” Mayor Keane said.
“Up to 15 per cent of children are affected by learning difficulties and disabilities and we know that this can have significant impacts on their learning, educational outcomes and their overall wellbeing.
“Early intervention is critical to mitigate the risk of disadvantage, as well as increasing their choices, opportunities and outcomes later in life.
“Helping children to do well on their educational journey– from early childhood, through school and beyond – delivers long-term benefits to them, their families and, potentially, generations to come.
“I am a huge believer in good early intervention programs and a big supporter of the incredible work that Learning Links provides for children.
“I am so proud to represent this wonderful organisation as their very first ambassador.”
Learning Links CEO Birgitte Maibom said Learning Links is delighted to appoint Mayor Keane as their first ambassador.
“We share a strong commitment to working with the community to bring vital children’s services to where it is needed most,” Ms Maibom said.
“Way too many Australian children are struggling to keep up and meet the educational standard needed to secure their future and wellbeing.
“There is a real need for our services in The Hills District, one of the fastest growing areas in Sydney for young families. Our services, together with Mayor Keane’s passion and engagement in the community will make a very strong partnership in achieving better outcomes for children.”
This new role adds to Mayor Keane’s portfolio as ambassador for Life Education, champion for victims of domestic violence and people with a disability, a journalist and mother of two young children.
