On Sunday 21 July, the Learning Links team laced up and took part in the 11km Tradies Sutherland 2 Surf fun run and walk. For our people it was more than just a physical challenge – the team was raising money for our Disadvantaged Children’s Education Fund, which is dedicated to providing free or subsidised access to life-changing education, communication and wellbeing services for children in need, empowering them to overcome obstacles and build brighter futures. Together, we raised over $5,600!

Today in Australia, a diagnosis of a learning difficulty or disability does not always entitle a child or family to financial assistance. This means that many children rely solely on their family’s ability to pay for the support services they need – including critical assessments, speech therapy, educational supports and targeted mental health programs. This can be particularly challenging for the families in our community who come from disadvantaged backgrounds or face other hardship. Sadly, many parents see their child struggling with their learning and simply can’t afford to pay for the vital services needed to support them to reach their full potential.

The Impact of Donations

Money raised for our Disadvantaged Children’s Education Fund directly funds critical programs for children and families facing disadvantage, including:

  • Literacy and Numeracy Sessions: Provided by our specialised teachers to enhance foundational skills for learning.
  • Child Psychology Support: Offered by our psychologists to promote positive mental health and wellbeing outcomes.
  • Speech and Language Therapy: Delivered by experienced speech pathologists to help children communicate with others in a meaningful way.

These services help children and adolescents who would otherwise miss out on this type of support to build confidence, improve communication skills and learn alongside their peers at school.

Thank You!

We are already looking forward to next year’s Sutherland 2 Surf event. This was the first year a Learning Links team took part, so we are excited about the possibility of bringing even more staff and supporters together to lace up and join us in this wonderful celebration of children’s education, health, wellbeing, friendships and philanthropy.

On behalf of Learning Links, we’d like to say a big thank you to everyone who took part in the Sutherland 2 Surf and all of the generous sponsors who supported them. Your generosity has helped empower more children in need to learn, develop, and thrive .
