What’s it about?
Do you often find yourself explaining a spelling word with the phrase, “that is an exception word, it doesn’t play fair”? This might not be true! Many of the spellings of words in our English language can be explained through their origin and spelling patterns. Help your students become a spelling detective.
This workshop will provide you with practical strategies, sample resources, and information for teaching the spelling, including: phonics, spelling rules and word etymology. Maximise your students’ learning outcomes by teaching spelling through linking to your already successful reading program.
Completing this course will contribute 3 hours of NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA) Registered PD addressing 1.5.2, 3.2.2, 5.1.2 from the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers towards maintaining Proficient Teacher Accreditation in NSW.
