Current volunteer opportunities

There are a number of tasks and areas of need where volunteers can make a difference at Learning Links. If you are interested in finding more about donating your time and expertise to help support the work of Learning Links, please contact Robyn Collins on (02) 8525 8249 or email .

Learning Links is a small charity with limited financial resources. The reason why many jobs go undone or needs remain unmet is that we simply can't afford to spend the money to get the work done or seek out advice.

We sincerely appreciate the help of volunteers and we hope you will understand that if your help requires financial support from Learning Links, we may not be in a position to provide funding to buy things such as paint, plants or tools. Our first priority with vital funds is helping children and families and as much fundraising as possible is put directly towards services for children.

If you are keen to help us, please consider the option of raising money to support the activity you would like to do. This will make your volunteering experience at Learning Links much more valuable as a team building exercise and you will know that you are truly supporting our children and families.

Some examples of areas we need assistance are as follows. Some of these activities can be done in stages, others need to be completed in the one job.

Training

We have a number of needs in this area. We would benefit from training/expertise in the following topics:

Microsoft Excel
Microsoft Outlook
Microsoft Word
Adobe Photoshop
Occupational Health & Safety - manual handling & other practices
General First Aid
Management, team building, leadership, negotiation skills
Photography - especially digital
Design - flyers, posters using Word/Publisher
IT - basic overview of technology advances & uses
Copyright
Internet capabilities & management
Trade Marks

Physical Activities

Letterbox drops - around our branches in Randwick, Brookvale and Fairfield in particular. This needs to be planned in advance as flyers will need to be printed. If a donation towards the cost of printing could be made, it would be greatly appreciated as 10,000 flyers can cost around $1,000.
Washing walls and painting rooms at our branch at Fairfield (weekend or school holidays only).
A garden makeover with new plants (preferably donated) at our Preschool in Peakhurst and branches at Brookvale and Penshurst.
An office fit out for our preschool therapists who are working in a room with very old desks. The workstations would need to be donated as we don't have the money for new workstations.
The Conference/Meeting room at Head Office at Peakhurst could do with a wash and coat of paint.
The kitchen and photocopy room upstairs at Head Office need a wash, holes filled and coat of paint.
The stairway and foyer at Peakhurst could do with a coat of paint.
The gym downstairs looks great after being painted by volunteers in 2005 but it could do with another coat (only apparent after the paint dried and everyone had left).
The exterior of Learning Links' Head Office needs a wash (a very large job).
The exterior railing at the back of our branch at Penshurst needs sanding, washing, rustproofing and painting.
The front driveway at Penshurst is uneven - it would benefit from paving to make the surface more even - this would help children with mobility problems. (We have tried to get funding for this but have been unsuccessful. We would need a donation of materials as we cannot afford pavers, sand or other materials.)
There are some rooms at Penshurst that need a second coat of paint.

Office work

We have a range of Christmas Cards that we sell to raise money. We need help with stocktaking and reorganising our cards.
We would love to have an experienced photographer donate his or her time to take photographs (digital) that we can use in our publications during the year. This would need someone to come to our Head Office for one day and take photos.
Twice a year we run raffles to raise money. We need to organise flyers and raffle tickets. A team activity around April/May and October every year requiring five to six people for a day. We also need people to wrap presents for these raffles.
We need teacher's resources made for the children each year. These activities including photocopying, laminating, cutting and binding. Good team building activity for a small group for one day. This could be done at your own office.
