Resources

Learning Links needs some diverse resources to make our services run a little better and if anyone can help, we'd appreciate the assistance.

Meyland Discover support sling required for our Early Starter’s program

Jamie is 12 months old and attends Learning Links Early Starters’ group. He was born prematurely and has high muscle tone causing muscle spasticity, which makes it hard for him to move. He cannot move independently like other children his age yet he is very bright and eager to crawl. The “Discover” is an aid that will allow Jamie to move independently. By supporting his chest and stomach, it will allow his muscles to learn to crawl, developing important foundation skills for later movement development. By allowing him to move it will also aid his social skill development.

We would like to purchase a “Discover” so we can lend it to Jamie’s family until he no longer needs it. As the height of the sling support can be adjusted, this equipment will be able to support Jamie as he grows. Once he has no further need for it, his family will return it to us so we can lend to other families in the future. The cost for the Discover support sling is $780 and anyone who would like to donate to help us purchase the Discover can call our Head Office on (02) 8525 8222 and ask to speak to Trish Hanna.

For a detailed description and photographs of the Meyland Discover you can go to the distributor’s website at www.dejay.com.au and click on Product Catalogue/Therapy Aid.

Vacuum required for Learning Links’ branch computers and printers

To maintain and clean our computers and printing equipment, Learning Links needs a computer vacuum for use at our six branches throughout Sydney.

The vacuum is required to clean out the delicate cooling fans and laser printers and one device that would do the job was priced at Bunnings for approximately $100. We also require some breathing masks with filters to avoid inhaling matter such as leaking laser printing toner whilst cleaning out the computers.

Any donations towards this equipment would be greatly appreciated. Please call Paul Bassetti on (02) 8525 8220 if you can help.

Books, toys and furniture for children

Learning Links is currently running a support group for parents on our waiting list to try and assist them with some help while they wait for a vacancy in our case management program. To help parents, we provide free child care for their children so they can concentrate on the information and support of the group.

This is a new initiative with limited funding to provide adequate and appropriate toys for the children while they are cared for by child care workers.

We have been able to obtain some resources from our Mobile Toy Library but they need to also support other children and we would love to add some more items for the children to enjoy and assist in their development.

If anyone can help with a donation towards the cost of these items please telephone Julie Densley on (02) 8525 8234.

Equipment for children and families

The following items are needed to assist in providing much needed services to families and children of Learning Links.  Any donations towards the equipment would be greatly appreciated. Please call Julie Densley on (02) 8525 8234 if you can help.

Two folding bench seats. These wooden seats are strong and stable and can be folded away for storage. They are $140 each including GST.

A child-height table for therapy groups. The table is 1500 x 750 x 500mm high and the cost is $130 including GST.

Portable printer to take on visits to families and print-out information and resources to leave with them. The printer that would be compatible with our computers is the Canon iP90V.  The recommended retail price is $345.

A folding hand trolley to help carry a computer and occupational therapy equipment. The trolley is $189.00 including GST.
