Giving Infants and Toddlers the Best Start in Life
Learning Links' Early Starters Program helps infants and toddlers who are having difficulty learning.
Children in our Program may have developmental delays or learning disabilities such as Down Syndrome, Autistic Spectrum Disorder or Cerebral Palsy or they may just be struggling to reach the developmental milestones that other children the same age reach easily.
Early Starters helps parents find out what their child can do and teaches them how to help their child develop their skills. We help with communication, fine and gross motor skills, social skills, self-help and play skills. |

We give young children the opportunity to play with other children with special needs and their brothers and sisters. Children learn to take turns, say hello to a friend and play along side one another.
Early Starters also prepares a child for their next educational environment by exposing them to structured activities, music and language groups and routines such as pack away time and morning tea.
Our Early Starters Program is coordinated by an Early Special Educator. Each week a therapist or health professional joins the group to add their expertise and provide families with specific information.
Specialists in the Program include Early Special Educators, Speech Pathologists, Physiotherapists, Occupational Therapists and Family Counsellors.
Early Starters works with families who are the enduring and central force in a child's life. Families make decision for their children and contribute resources and expertise (knowledge, skills, time) to help their child be the best they can be.
It is the combination of a team of specialists and the family that makes Early Starters such a wonderful program for young children who have delayed development.
It also gives families an opportunity to talk to professionals about their child's development, skills and areas of need in a relaxed and informal manner.
Early Starters helps families and their children with disabilities have fun together. It is a time to play and learn through everyday experiences and planned activities that might not always be practical or available at home.
Families who attend our Early Starters Program are usually struggling on one income as they have a child with one or more disabilities who needs constant care and attention. One parent needs to be available to take this child to and from medical appointments and therapy. There is so much more to do when you have a child with a disability. Their medical costs are exceptionally high when compared with a family with healthy children.
Most of the families attending our Early Starters Program struggle every day. Donations can help these families by giving them the vital specialist therapy their children need without straining their financial situation even more.
$20.00 will cover the fee of one Early Starters group session for a family. $55 will give a family with a child with a disability or developmental delay an individual therapy session. $200 will pay for a child to attend the Early Starters group for one term. $1,600 will pay for a group of eight families for one term. Donations over $20 will provide valuable resources and specialist equipment for the Early Starters Program.
