Family Counselling and Parenting Support
Our Family Counselling and Parenting Support Program provides families in the St George and Sutherland areas with an opportunity to discuss issues of concern with a trained counsellor. The support offered not only helps parents deal with issues related to their child's disability or developmental delay, but also assists them to alleviate family problems.
We provide parenting programs to assist with behaviour management and also help with accessing Centrelink benefits and services.
Individual Family Service Plan Meetings are conducted to help parents make decisions about the services their child will receive.
Family Therapy is available at our Peakhurst office for families experiencing concerns such as difficulty communicating, managing behavioural problems with one or more children, or attempting to deal with a problem or issue which seems to continually arise in different situations. Appointments are usually made with you on your own or with the whole or part of your family.
Play Therapy and Counselling is available at our Peakhurst office for children experiencing grief, loss, anger and poor self-esteem. Many children who are struggling at school with learning experience these difficulties. Using play, children and adolescents are able to explore strong feelings of loss, hopelessness and anger in a safe and contained environment with the support of a trained
counsellor.
Sessions for Parents and babies or toddlers are available for parents who are having difficulties in their relationships with their infants and/or toddlers. These sessions offer an opportunity to work with a family therapist with specialised training in parent/young child interactions to develop confidence and strong relationships with their child. This is suitable for parents of children 6 weeks - 30 months and is available at our Peakhurst office.
These services are free and confidential to families of children with disabilities and developmental delays.
