Assessment Program

Does your child struggle with learning and you're not sure why?
Would you like to know how your child learns best?
Has your school recommended that your child's learning ability be assessed?

Learning Links' professionals assist children and young people with learning and developmental issues by providing assessments, group intervention programs and professional development.

A comprehensive assessment of a student's learning strengths and needs is an important first step in understanding how we can best help them.

Results of the assessment are discussed with parents and a comprehensive written report is provided. Parents may also request to speak with a Family Counsellor about issues of concern.

Consultancy Program

Following assessment, families may request that the assessor attend a case conference with the student's home, school, or another agency, to discuss their learning strengths and needs.

Psychometric Assessments

A psychometric assessment will identify a student's potential for learning and their preferred learning style. Tests available are as follows:

WPPSI-III WISC-III,
WISC-IV, and
Stanford Binet – 4th Edition.

Academic Assessments

An academic assessment measures how a student is performing in a range of skill areas and how this compares with their peers and grade expectations. Skill areas assessed are as follows:

Phonemic Awareness (younger students),
Reading Accuracy,
Reading Comprehension,
Spelling,
Written Expression (older students), and
Mathematics.

Combined Psychometric and Academic Assessments

Both assessments are administered on the same day to gather a complete understanding of a student's capacity for learning and their current level of achievement.

Processing Assessments

This assessment measures a student's neuro-psychological development in areas of processing relevant to learning and behaviour. The NEPSY can be used with school age children up to 12 years. Processes assessed:

Language,
Memory,
Sensorimotor,
Visuo-spatial, and
Attention/Executive Functions.

Special Provisions Assessments

This assessment is for students completing their School or Higher School Certificate who are seeking suitable accommodations such as extended time or a reader or writer for exams. A report is provided that schools can submit to the Board of Studies for consideration.

Group Programs

Exciting group programs are available to help students with specific areas of need such as improving social skills, supporting the transition to high school and enhancing concentration and memory. Programs are available both within school terms and holidays. New programs are regularly developed and advertised at our branches, on this website in the What's New section and in Learning Links' News.

Professional Development

Our professionals seek to help children and young people by sharing information about learning and intervention strategies. A range of topics are available to professionals including understanding learning styles, unraveling psychometric assessments, Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder and the classroom, identifying learning difficulties and developing children's social skills.

Professional Development sessions are available to schools and organisations. Click here for information on our current courses and workshops. Fees

Learning Links charges fees for services to cover the fees of providing specialist help. As a non-profit organisation and charity, our fees for children and families are as low as possible.

To help subsidise fees for children from financially disadvantaged families, we raise funds and apply to a range of organisations and businesses for financial assistance. To access fee subsidies, you must be a member of Learning Links. If your child is enrolled in a Learning Links' program, you can become a Parent Member for $20 (incl GST) per year.
