Life & Learning with Autism Spectrum
Wendy Lawson was diagnosed with an Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) as an adult. This followed 25 years of being misdiagnosed as a schizophrenic and a childhood where she was described as intellectually disabled and 'almost incapable of doing as she is told'. For more than forty years she lived with intense feelings of confusion, frustration, depression and isolation. Being diagnosed with ASD has helped Wendy understand who she is, why she behaves the way she does and what she can do to help herself understand her environment better. Wendy now has five university degrees and is a mum of four children. Drawing on her wealth of personal experience, both as a adult with ASD and a mother of a child with ASD, Wendy operates her own business running training programs, helping others better understand the disorder. She has given many interviews and written a variety of papers on the topic and her website at www.mugsy.org/wendy/index.htm has articles and poems that give an insight into her life and experiences. Wendy’s willingness to share her journey and understanding of ASD are applauded and she is a highly regarded presenter in her field. Wendy has a remarkable story to tell and members and supporters of Learning Links are invited to hear Wendy speak at our Annual General Meeting at 7.30pm at St George Leagues Club, Mahogany Room, 124 Princes Highway, Kogarah .
